Women from Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Tuesday, joined thousands of other women participants across Lagos State to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day, an event organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women to societal development.
The colourful event, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, brought together women from the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas, alongside top government officials. Participants were united under the global theme, “Right, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” with a strong focus on gender equality, empowerment, and inclusion.

Leading the delegation from Imota LCDA, the wife of the Imota LCDA Chair, Mrs. Oluwatosin Benson Ayodele, mobilised a vibrant team of women leaders, market women, youth representatives, and key community stakeholders who participated in the various activities lined up for the celebration actively.
Their presence at the state-level gathering underscored Imota LCDA’s unwavering commitment to promoting women’s rights and advancing gender equality at the grassroots level, in line with global development goals.
The Head of Department, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Aderonke Hussain, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for organising what she described as an impactful and well-coordinated event. She noted that the celebration provided a valuable platform for networking, learning, and sharing experiences among women from diverse backgrounds.

Mrs. Hussain also emphasised the need for sustained advocacy to ensure equal opportunities for women, particularly in leadership, governance, and decision-making processes across all sectors of society.
Highlights of the event included vibrant cultural displays and exhibitions, which showcased the rich heritage of Lagos communities while reinforcing unity and solidarity among women.
Participants from Imota LCDA described the celebration as both enlightening and inspiring, adding that it has further strengthened their resolve to contribute to community development and support initiatives aimed at uplifting women and girls meaningfully.
